Maddison’s practice involves media and defamation law, privacy law, employment law, and professional regulatory law.
Prior to commencing her articles with the firm, Maddison completed a clerkship at the Alberta Court of Appeal in Edmonton. Maddison has appeared before various boards and tribunals and represented clients at all three levels of court in Alberta, the Court of King’s Bench and the Court of Appeal of Saskatchewan, and the Supreme Court of Canada (leave to appeal).
Maddison assists employers and employees to resolve disputes relating to employment, including issues arising from terminations, human resource concerns, and drafting of employment agreements and related policies.
Maddison also assists a number of regulatory bodies, providing advice on regulatory issues, interpretation of legislation, and representing clients in disciplinary hearings.
In her media and defamation law practice, Maddison assists media organizations in relation to issues arising from restrictions on publication. Maddison assists both media organizations and individuals in advancing and defending defamation claims.
Maddison coaches the Wilson Moot, a constitutional law appellate moot, at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law and often presents to clients and the legal community on issues relating to Maddison’s practice.
