Francis Price, KC and Denis Noël, KC set to retire at the end of 2023

Both Francis Price, KC and Denis Noël, KC have spent their entire careers at Reynolds Mirth, and both leave profound legacies with the firm.

Francis Price, KC

Francis was called to the bar in 1976 and has been a leading authority on foreclosure matters for decades. In 1985 he co-authored (along with his wife, Marguerite Trussler) “Mortgage Actions in Alberta” and in 1996 he authored a “Practice Guide to Conducting a Foreclosure Action.” He was appointed King’s Counsel in 1992. In the past number of years, Francis’ practice has included an increased focus on arbitrations.

Francis has been a respected mentor to generations of lawyers at the firm over the years. His expertise has also made him a sought-after educational leader and he has taught at various organizations and schools in Canada and internationally, including the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, the Center for International Legal Studies (Austria), the Centro Juridico para el Comercio Interamericano, Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (México), and the Universidad Católica Argentina (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Francis is also an active member and patron of the Edmonton arts community. He is among the founders of Players de novo, the “lawyers’ play” in which a number of Reynolds Mirth lawyers have participated over the years. His involvement with the Edmonton Opera has been particularly impactful. In addition to singing bass in the Opera chorus, he has been involved with the Edmonton Opera board for over 20 years.

In 2023, Francis received one of OPERA America’s esteemed National Opera Trustee Recognition Awards, which honour outstanding trustees of North American opera companies for their exemplary leadership and service on behalf of their respective organizations. He was also the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022.

Denis Noël, KC

Denis was called in 1981. Over the course of his career, he focused on construction law, administrative law, aboriginal law, and insurance law. He was regularly consulted by Métis Settlements, indigenous organizations and a number of professional and cultural associations.

He has published articles in the Alberta Law Review relating to corporate law and has lectured to many different industries and businesses on technology-related liability issues. He is known as a tremendous writer, a brilliant thinker, and a lawyer who sees all sides of the issues. Throughout his career, Denis has advised clients in both French and English. He also taught at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law for a number of years. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2006.

Although Denis’ community legacy is multifaceted, his particular and tireless contribution to the Franco-Albertan community can’t be overstated. These include:

  • Serving as the president of Francophonie jeunesse de l’Alberta;
  • Serving on the board of the Fédération nationale des jeunes francophones;
  • Serving on the board – and acting as a legal advisor for 4 decades – to the Association Canadienne-Française de l’Alberta;
  • Serving on the board of Boîte à Popicos (French youth theatre), as well as L’UniThéâtre (Edmonton’s french language theatre company);
  • Serving on the board of the Cité Francophone; and
  • Serving as a board member for l’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Alberta. For this contribution, Denis was awarded the AJEFA Prix d’excellence Jean-Louis Lebel in 2010.

Earlier this year, the Association Canadienne-Française de l’Alberta awarded Denis the prestigious Prix au service de la francophonie.

The team at Reynolds Mirth Richards & Farmer LLP wishes Francis and Denis the very best as they each transition to retirement.
