RMRF Counsel Douglas R. Stollery Elected New Chancellor of the University of Alberta

Doug Stollery joined RMRF in 1977 after working with the firm for two summers, though he took time out to obtain a Master’s degree from Harvard in 1980. Following Harvard, Doug’s practice contained a wide range of work including criminal, family, corporate, real estate, and some civil litigation. For a decade, Stollery was involved in receivership and bankruptcy work and became involved with employment law and priorities. From the early ‘90s, he had more involvement with large-scale corporate / commercial and construction activities, much of it international in scope. In 2006, Doug left RMRF to join PCL Constructors Inc. as general Counsel, but with executive responsibilities.

In the spring of 2012, Doug received a Lifetime Achievement award at the annual CGCA (Canadian General Counsel Awards). The National Post cites the CGCAs as the “Oscars for Canada’s in-house legal community”, and explains that Doug’s years of practice; a pioneering role in the development of public-private partnerships, make him a worthy candidate along with his broad range of experience and community involvement.

In the same year, Grant MacEwan University awarded Doug with the Distinguished Citizen Award in the fall of 2012. This honorary degree is the university’s highest tribute to individuals reflecting the university’s mission and fundamental values.

After retiring as General Counsel and Secretary of PCL Constructors Inc., Doug returned to RMRF as counsel. His adherence to standards of excellence have contributed to the firm’s professional success.

Please join us in congratulating Doug in his new venture.
